THE WELLKNOWN FORMER mayor Washington, D.C. Mayor Marion Barry was honored at a gala dinner at the upscale Fairmont Hotel in Northwest Washington on the evening of Sept. 23. He was presented the "Eagle Fly Free" award. He and three other honorees were recognized for their survival of a life-threatening health problem. Mr. Barry, who now serves as a member of the D.C. Council in Washington, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1995 and underwent surgery to treat the cancer. Some 250 people attended the dinner, which was sponsored by the Institute for the Advancement of Multicultural and Minority Medicine.
