THANKSGIVING WEEKEND marked the beginning of the American Christmas shopping season. While Christmas decorations started showing up in some stores weeks ago, everybody got into the Christmas spirit during the last week of November. The bright colors were a welcome contrast to the dark days of the season. And the stores were obviously trying to lure reluctant, tight-fisted consumers back to their cash registers. Here are pictures from Georgetown, Washington, D.C., and Friendship Heights, Washington, D.C. and Maryland.
