A WEEK BEFORE the American presidential inauguration -- on a cold and gray day -- several stores in Georgetown in Washington, D.C., were displaying their Obama decorations in anticipation of the inauguration celebrations. A festive cascade of red, blue and white -- and gold and silver -- was covering the shop windows to honor the President-elect.
