IF YOU ARE LOOKING for a Christmas gift or holiday gift, Tuesday evening's annual (November 17) Book Fair at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. was the perfect place to be. A big crowd took the opportunity to look at a variety of books and schmooze with politicians, writers, journalists, pundits and international relations experts, and many familiar figures were there, including Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), former Sen. Max Cleland (D-Ga.), The White House Press Corps' Grand Lady Helen Thomas, Janet Langhart Cohen who is the wife of former Secretary of Defense William Cohen, reporters and writers Gwen Ifill, Richard Wolffe, Craig Crawford and Ann Coulter, and international relations expert Vali Nasr. However, there may have been some disappointment that super popular TV-anchor Chris Matthews, from the MSNBC show "Hardball with Chris Matthews," canceled at the last minute, and that controversial former Illinois governor Rod "Blago" Blagojevich didn't bother to show up as promised.
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) has written a second novel "Blind Trust," which is an intriguing insider's view of what is going on behind closed doors in Washington.
