WHAT COULD BE a better day than a sunny, warm and pleasant Sunday to arrange a bicycle tour in downtown Washington, D.C. That was just what Eric Brewer and Kristin Guiter initiated, and this last Sunday, November 15, the first ever Tweed Ride (www.dctweedride.org) was held in the nation's capital - "First Semi-Annual Washington, DC Tweed Ride."
Organizers Kristin Guiter and Eric Brewer are being interviewed by the media.
THE EVENT WAS so successful, with plenty of media coverage, that there will be a follow up in the spring, probably in April. Participants, dressed in dandy style or clothing from the Victorian époque, bicycled through the city to the end goal, the restaurant Marvin on 14 and U Streets, where the festivities continued, with a Post-Ride Social, a raffle, awards for the dandiest dressers, specialty drinks and dancing to the finest Brit-pop and soul.
THE TWEED RIDE was a fundraiser for the organization AFTA (www.aftaarts.org) or Arts For The Aging, Inc., which helps elderly to get richer lives through the arts. AFTA's founder is Lolo Sarnoff, and its executive director, Janine Tursini, was very satisfied with the enormous response and interest in the event.

THIS POPULAR CONCEPT - to bicycle dressed in Victorian époque clothing -- originated in London, and has spread to several American cities. The event was sponsored by 1793 Plymouth English Gin and Marvin.
