MUSIC FANS and enthusiasts enjoyed the music of the young Swedish quintet Jaerv (www.jaerv.se) at the House of Sweden on Wednesday evening, April 14. Jaerv is known for an extroverted, vigorous and heartfelt folk music with influences from both jazz and pop music. Rooted in several different musical traditions, Jaerv showcased a varied stage performance where vocal, five-voiced tunes blended in with energetic dances and free improvisations.
THE GOTHENBURG-BASED group members are Anders Bergsten, nyckelharpa, double bass & vocals; Markus Gustavsson, fiddle & vocals; Harald Nilsson, guitar & vocals; Joel Hagen, flute, soprano saxophone & vocals; and Tobias Hedlund, percussion & vocals. Additionally Swedish singer Matilda Jacobsson joined the group for a few of the vocal presentations. Jaerv is on 10-day tour in the United States. They have previously performed in New York, and will continue to Morristown, N.J., Harrisburg, Penn., and Jamestown, N.Y.
