AFTA - the Arts for the Aging, Inc. (www.aftaarts.org) - celebrated its 20th anniversary with the annual tennis tournament and benefit. It was a well-attended, very successful event, with semifinals, finals and exhibition matches at the courts on the lawn of the Swedish residence in Northwest Washington, D.C. on Sunday, May 16. Earlier in the day, the tournament started out with round-robin mixed doubles matches at different private courts throughout the Washington metropolitan area.
THE PLAYERS at the exhibition were Elise Burgin, Fred Drilling, Chi Wan Kim, WJLA, Channel 7 lead weatherman Bob Ryan, H'Cone Thompson, Hai-Li Kong and Jordan Portner. Afterwards there was an awards ceremony at the residence where the tournament winners were presented their trophies, and a cocktail reception and a fabulous buffet followed.
