Swedish classical guitarist Celia Linde after the performance in House of Sweden
ACCLAIMED SWEDISH classical guitarist Celia Linde performed a unique variety of music from Swedish folk tunes and contemporary Latin American music and Spanish music, to her own classical compositions on Sunday, April 25, at the House of Sweden in Washington, D.C. Ms. Linde is known for her personal style, her captivating temperament and for her wide range of musical interpretations.
CELIA LINDE IS a former student of Andrés Segovia and one of Scandinavia's most prominent guitar soloists. She won the first Prize in the International Segovia Fellowship Competition in New York 1986. At the time Segovia wrote about her: "Her technique is excellent and her musicianship exact, noble and expressive."
DURING THE OLYMPICS in Barcelona in 1992, Celia Linde was honored by being chosen to play a solo performance for heads of state, including the Kings and Queens of both Spain and Sweden. The Swedish Rikskonserter and The Art Foundation have commissioned works for her. Among Swedish composers who have created works for Linde are Sven-David Sandström, Tommie Haglund and Reine Jönsson.
CELIA LINDE PERFORMS standard works for guitar and orchestra, and tours frequently as a soloist throughout Europe, the United States, Canada and Turkey. Recently she was invited to perform in Japan and Korea, and she is often featured as a solo artist on National Swedish Radio-Television, and has also been profiled on the BBC, Denmark's Radio, Turkish Radio-Television (TRT) as well as New York's WNYC and other international radio stations.
IN 1988, Celia Linde entered the international concert circuit with a brilliant U.S. debut to a sold-out house in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. She has recorded for labels such as Blue Bell, RCA and Caprice. Her own composition "Episodes on a Journey" is due to be released by Naxos/Proprius in August 2010.
