THE ANNUAL Swedish Midsummer Festival in New York City will take place in Battery Park City on the southern tip of Manhattan on Friday, June 24. Adults and children come together to picnic in the grass, decorate the midsummer pole, make flower wreaths, play traditional games and dance to authentic fiddle music at this unique celebration.
THERE WILL ALSO be traditional music and folk dancing provided by the Swedish Folkdancers of New York, Paul Dahlin and fiddlers from the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, and Barnklubben Elsa Rix. Gunnar and Lena Iggendal, leaders of the Stockholm’s Spelmanslag, will also join the musicians this year. Master of ceremonies and dance callers is Ross Sutter, professional folk musician and Swedish heritage historian.
ADDITIONALLY food stands will offer delicacies from White Slab Palace, AQ Caf?and Sm?rg? Chef. The restaurant Gigino’s in Wagner Park is also confirmed.
THE CELEBRATION, which will take place between 5-8 p.m. at Robert F. Wagner Park (rain or shine), is presented by Battery Park City Parks Conservancy and co-hosted by the Consulate General of Sweden in New York.
