THE 191st ANNIVERSARY of the independence of Peru is being celebrated with a cultural festival – Kaypi Per? (www.kaypiperu.com) Peruvian Arts and Cultural Legacy — at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. The festive reception with speeches and music and dance performances was held on Tuesday evening, July 24, with hundreds of guests in attendence. Peru’s Independence Day is July 28. Among the speakers were Peruvian Ambassador Harold Forsyth and Kevin Gover, Director of the National Museum of the American Indian.

THE KAYPI Kaypi Per? festival showcases the South American nation’s rich and diverse cultural heritage and traditional arts, including an art market, music and dance performances, hands-on activities for children, short films, photo exhibitions on Macchu Picchu and the Inka Road and traditional plants, as well as Peruvian Paso horses and alpacas.

THE FESTIVAL will continue through Monday, July 30. The National Museum of the American Indian is located at 4th St. & Independence Ave., S.W., Washington, D.C.
